We first saw the potential for Yaktrax in 2003 when, having endured several icy days in suburban Surrey walking our dog to the local park on lethally icy pavements, our search began for a solution. Having discovered Yaktrax in the US after many weeks of Internet research, we realised not just how few devices of this kind there are on the market but how hard they are to find.
We liked the Yaktrax ice traction device so much that we bought the domain name and then asked if we could have the product! Of course we could have settled for bringing over a few pairs for family and friends but the product was too good for that.
Sales have gone from strength to strength largely through word of mouth. From the feedback we have had, Yaktrax is the best product of its type on the market.
We now sell Yaktrax not only for use in the UK but also receive orders from Lapland, Russia, Kazakhstan, France, Italy and Switzerland. Yaktrax are ideal for skiing holidays for areas where deep snow gives way to packed snow and ice, such as well trodden pedestrian areas. We often receive enquiries about orders to Kazakhstan, Russia and other areas where ex-pat Brits and Americans are based so feel free to contact us for distributor information
As a small, family business, we offer a personal service and work hard to guarantee your satisfaction.
As part of our research we discovered some very disconcerting things, and a few interesting ones. Legally the local councils in the UK have no liability for accidents on icy pavements. If you slip in a car-park or other private premises then the owner may be held responsible, but slip on ice on the pavement outside your own home and you're on your own!
Professor Atkins, founder of the Atkins Diet, died when he slipped and hit his head on an icy New York sidewalk on his regular walk to work. Mary Baker Eddie, founder of the Christian Science movement, had a severe fall on an icy pavement in Oxford in February 1886 and, although pronounced fatally injured by physicians, was miraculously healed on reading the Bible.
In the search for this product we searched for snow shoes, ice cleats, ice grips, icy pavements, accidents and all kinds of things. The end result was not only discovering the product itself but a load of only very loosely related links to snow chains, winter clothing and accident claims. See our Links Page.
